What you get

Everything a parent needs to judge the schools around a home, on one free map.

Nearest schools to any address

Drop in a postcode or address and get the five closest schools, their Ofsted grade and the distance from the door. Narrow it to primary or secondary in one tap.

Compare homes side by side

Save every property on your shortlist. Each one appears on the map so you can see which has the better schools nearby.

Every school, colour-coded

Every state-funded school in England, from nurseries to sixth forms, coloured by its Ofsted rating so strong and weak areas stand out at a glance.

Filter what matters

Show only primary, secondary or special schools, only Outstanding or Good ones, or narrow down by region or local authority. Search any school by name or town.

The detail behind the grade

Click a school for its inspection date, sub-grades for teaching, behaviour, personal development and leadership, pupil numbers and type.

One click to the full report

Every school links straight to its official Ofsted report, so you can read what the inspectors actually said.

How it works

  1. 1

    Enter a postcode

Use the postcode of a house you're viewing, renting or thinking of buying.

  2. 2

    See the schools around it

The map zooms to the address and lists the nearest schools with their ratings and distances.

  3. 3

Add the rest of your shortlist

Add more addresses to compare areas, then open any school's Ofsted report to dig deeper.

Reading the colours

  • Outstanding Ofsted's highest grade.
  • Good The grade most schools hold.
  • Requires improvement Not yet good; Ofsted will return.
  • Inadequate Serious weaknesses identified.
  • No grade Not yet inspected, or inspected under the newer system without a single overall grade.

A grade marked (old) means the school's most recent visit was a shorter, ungraded inspection that found it still at its previous standard, so we show that previous grade.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. There's nothing to sign up for.

Where does the data come from?

From Ofsted's official monthly management information on school inspection outcomes, published on GOV.UK. The current data is as at 30 September 2026, and we check for new releases every week.

Which schools are included?

All state-funded schools in England: primary, secondary, special, nursery and alternative provision, including academies and free schools. Independent schools are not included.

What about Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?

They have their own school inspectorates and don't use Ofsted, so they aren't covered.

Does being close to a school guarantee a place?

No. Distances on the map are straight-line, and every school or local authority sets its own admissions rules and catchment. Always check with the school or council.

What happens to the addresses I enter?

Saved addresses stay in your own browser. We don't keep them on our server. To place an address on the map, the text you type is looked up with OpenStreetMap's free geocoding service.
